I am Map Librarian and department head at the UCSB Library'sMap & Imagery Laboratory.

I make maps, paper and digital; curate spatial data, including the largest known collection of aerial photographs in an academic library; create datasets of interest to the UCSB community; and serve as the main point of contact for researchers using cartographic materials and techniques.

I have a continuing interest in the ways technology (most especially maps) affects our perception of the landscape and how we, as human beings, create place out of space. Important places in this equation include:

  • Cities
  • Neighborhoods
  • Libraries
  • Cyberspace
